Here’s an updated version of my previous Shortcuts workflow to use via the «Share»-menu in Safari on iOS, iPadOS and macOS to easily bypass paywalls on a large variety of news websites.

Install the «Remove Paywall» shortcut

How to use the shortcut to bypass a paywalled article

  1. Open a paywalled webpage or news article.
  2. Then tap the «Share»-icon in Safari & choose «Remove Paywall» from the list.
  3. A new browser tab will open with the unlocked / bypassed webpage.

Since 12ft.io was recently taken down and went out-of-service, it is now using removepaywall.com.

    1. @Marielle it cannot remove paywall on every website; especially those who are not „secretly“ revealing the full content, but require a hard login to view everything, won’t work naturally.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion @FX, but the shortcut also works without the URL parameter – and I have to admit that I personally prefer it that way. Using the /search?url=… parameter, the unpaywalled website view is no longer mobile-friendly & has an overload in UI options IMHO.

However: you should be able to modify the Shortcut locally on your device, once installed.

    1. Hi Bob,
Where exactly would you expect it, and it didn’t show up?

Here’s an example to use in macOS Safari

      1. When you have a website open in Safari,
      2. Click the «Share Sheet» icon in the Safari window,
      3. Then select «Shortcuts»: you will see the action in the list!

      Hope that helps.
