iPhoto Logo

iPhoto LogoI recently installed the new OS X 10.10 Yosemite and this new behavior really startet getting on my nerves: whenever I connected my iPhone or iPad to the Mac, it always launched iPhoto! I checked the iPhoto settings and felt like I had turned everything off related to this behavior… Turns it, I hadn’t.

In order to prevent iPhoto from launching in OS X 10.10 Yosemite when connecting an iOS device, make sure you change the following 2 settings are set to “No application”.

1) In “iPhoto”:

  • Open the from the iPhoto Menu > Preferences… > General
  • Change “Connecting Camera Opens…” to “No Application”
Stop iPhoto launching in OSX Yosemite - iPhoto Preferences

2) In “Image Capture”:

(repeat this for each iOS device!)

  1. Select the device in Image Capture
  2. Display the device options by clicking on the little triangle ^-icon in the lower left corner.
  3. Change “Connecting this device opens” to “No Application”
Stop iPhoto launching in OSX Yosemite - Image Capture Settings

Although one may say this is not a bug but a feature, I used Apple’s Feedback Assistant.app in OS X Yosemite to report this behavior, because I can hardly believe this is really intentional. Let’s hope it gets fixed/changed in a future release of Yosemite.
