Timr Logo

Through a recommendation by a friend, I installed Timr (there’s also an iOS app for timr) today in order to accurately keep track of my working times.

I thought I share here my first impression of this tool, because it comes with quite some nice features.

Setup
Simple and quick – even all via the iPhone (Account setup)

Features
Timr provides you not only with a simple (probably too simple?) app on your mobile device, but also creates a personalized time tracking website for you! You can access this site anytime using http://yourusername.timr.com/

A nice feature on the website is, that it let’s you add past times that you worked on anything. Additionally, the website serves as central administration place for your personal time tracking settings. So you need to check the website out after signing up an account!

But what is absolutely stunning is the live synchronization of a running timer (!) between the mobile device and the website! You can see (again: live!) the currently running time, which you started on your iPhone, on the website. And vice versa.

As mentioned, you need to check the administration area on the website for your initial setup. The good thing is, that it offers not too much settings, but also not too less. I personally deleted everything in there (f.eg. tasks), but added one additional time tracking mode “Work at Home”.

The website also allows you to run various reports on the times you tracked. No need to manually summarize the times, etc. – it’s all done automatically and comes with nice charts.

Downside?
None so far. Only thing to mention is that Timr is free with all functionality for the first 30 days only. As soon as this trial period is expired, you need to decide between

  1. Tracking your working time
  2. Tracking project time (and tasks)
  3. Tracking your car rides & expenses

As I don’t need to track project time and car expenses, it will be obvious with which free mode I will go. But for me personally that was the functionality I was looking for and is sufficient for me.

Summary
If you are looking for a easy-to-use app for your mobile device to track working times or expenses, Timr might be a really good and FREE solution.
