What happened with iCloud sync for Messages?
Apple first mentioned and introduced the iCloud sync for Messages (formerly iMessages) with the early Betas of iOS 11 & macOS High Sierra. But it never worked flawlessly for all the Beta testers – so it was no wonder, that they decided to strip it completely from following Beta versions, so as the final releases of iOS 11 and High Sierra we’re using today.
It’s finally back!
However, great news arised recently: the iCloud sync for Messages is back in new Beta releases for iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra!
Here are a few articles covering the state from current Beta versions:
- CNET – iOS 11.4 beta: AirPlay 2, Messages in iCloud and more
- MacRumors – iCloud Messages Returns to iOS in First Beta of iOS 11.3
- Redmond Pie – How To Sync Messages On iCloud With iOS 11.3, macOS 10.13.4 Or Later
Let’s hope we will see this feature finally in the official releases of iOS 11.4 and macOS High Sierra (or even a completely new macOS Version?). And hopefully this time they squashed out all bugs with syncing Messages to iCloud…
When will Apple rollout iCloud sync for Messages on iOS & macOS?
Concluding from the fact that they reintroduced it already a couple weeks ago, and having this year’s Apple World Wide Developer Conference WWDC shortly ahead, I’d bet we’ll hear something more concrete about this feature very soon!
Well, that didn’t take long. iOS 11.4 is out and Messages in iCloud is officially available: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208532
